Do our traits come from our elders, or do they come from our day-to-day experiences? This question is a real head-scratcher, as many psychologists now, and ancient Greeks have debated the nature-nurture issue for decades, but remains a hot topic. People like Socrates and Plato thought that we're born into the type of person we will be while Aristotle said that people learn from what they see and hear around them.
Jumping ahead, in the 1600's philosophers like Locke basically said "Nope, we' don't spawn into the world with preloaded knowledge, but we learn from our experiences as we live our lives." Although Descartes disagreed, he said that there is some truth in what Locke said, but some traits are simply wired into us.
Then, in 1831, a man named Charles Darwin, aged 22 set out on an interesting journey around the world to explore the idea of natural selection. He wasn't exactly a  good on-paper, straight-A, student, but he had a dying passion for biology and had lots of curiosity within him. Darwin noticed, that from the many different creatures he encountered in his endeavor, there were many different kinds of the same organism across the different islands. Even the tortoises looked one way on one island but different on the rest, (this is where his concept of natural selection began). Fast forward to 1859, Darwin wrote his infamous book, "On the Origin of Species" talking about the whole natural selection thing which is basically mother nature's way of choosing the best traits for organisms, to help with their survival in that specific area. Darwin's revolutionary idea was supported by many big shots in the industry, as they called it "the single best idea anyone has ever had", and to this day, continues to be talked about.
